Missoni for Target sells out as Little Marina stops in Minneapolis

Via Vita.mn: No less than an hour after doors opened on Tuesday morning, Missoni’s hotly anticipated capsule collection for Target had all but sold out in local stores, and the line’s e-shop on Target.com had crashed. Part of the sellout may be attributable to eBay sellers — reports circulated of people snagging armfuls of identical pieces, and by 5 p.m. on Tuesday upwards of 3,000 items had found their way on eBay, some going for nearly ten times original retail prices, leaving shoppers who arrived on Tuesday to leave emptyhanded and disappointed. It was a fervor unprecedented for a Target designer collaboration, which have included big names like Alexander McQueen and Anna Sui in recent years, and its largest designer collection to date, with categories spanning fashion, bedding and housewares.

Those who braved the jaunt to the Nicollet Mall location in downtown Minneapolis on Tuesday morning were treated to an unusual sight: a 25-foot-tall, Missoni-wearing marionette named “Little Marina,” who supposedly spent the past week in New York covering Fashion Week events for her Missoni for Target blog, “All the Way Up Here.” Propped up in the front atrium of the two-level Target, Little Marina interacted with shoppers with the help of two puppeteers and — perhaps most realistically — “texted” on her oversized iPhone.
