Tonight: Macy’s Glamorama gets "ARTrageous" with help from Karl Lagerfeld

The biggest fashion blowout of the year is back, and this year’s Macy’s Glamorama has the makings of being the best in years. For one, they booked a big-name headlining act that actually draws a crowd (Bruno Mars), something they’ve fallen short with in recent years (see Macy Gray, Ne-Yo). Two, they’re making good on their “ARTrageous” theme, with specially-created art installations at the rooftop after party and an arts-fueled visual show accompanying the runway. And three, the show will offer a premiere of the highly-anticipated Karl Lagerfeld capsule collection for Macy’s. Though Herr Karl sadly won’t be making an appearance, it still marks the first time the collection will be seen on a runway. And, of course, there’s the fashion. Collections from the fall 2011 runways will premiere in the Midwest for the first time from big names like Armani Jeans, Jean Paul Gaultier, Marc Jacobs, Sonia Rykiel and Tracy Reese. (8 p.m. Fri. $60-1000. Orpheum Theatre, 910 Hennepin Av., Mpls. 612-339-7007.)

Here are Karl Lagerfeld's sketches for his Macy's line, which consist of a mix of dresses, shorts, blouses, and T-shirts sold in about 235 Macy's stores, including the Nicollet Mall location in Minneapolis beginning on August 31:
